Training Course Summary:

The Cisco ONS 15454 is a fast and powerful, yet easy to use optical platform that lowers the cost and increases the efficiency of DWDM and mixed DWDM/TDM networks. The instructor-led Cisco ONS 15454 MSTP Turn Up, Test, Provisioning, and Operation Training gives students the opportunity to learn how to operate and test the Cisco ONS 15454 MSTP system through classroom instruction and hands-on training. Working in small groups of up to three people per node, students complete a wide range of tasks covering many system features and functions. Each student has the opportunity to participate in every lab. Lab exercises rely on the Cisco ONS 15454 user documentation for references to specific procedures. At the end of the training students have the opportunity to work with the ONS 15454 MSTP system in an open lab. Activities in the open lab are self-directed, but the instructor is available to answer questions and offer guidance.

Course Objectives

After completing this course the student should be able to:

Identify the major components, features, and functions of the Cisco ONS 15454 DWDM system
Identify laser, fiber optic, electrical, and electrostatic discharge (ESD) safety topics associated with the ONS 15454
Identify the major components of optical fiber cables and connectors
Identify the major steps required to properly clean optical fiber cables and connectors
Identify the different ONS 15454 DWDM Topologies
Install and provision common control, optical, and DWDM cards
Identify types of IP addressing and common IP addressing scenarios
Perform system setup and login
Use the Cisco Transport Controller software
Turn up and verify an ONS 15454 DWDM node
Provision and test a point-to-point DWDM network
Create optical channel network connections

SONET or SDH structure and hierarchy
DWDM basics
Optical test equipment use
