Training Course Summary:

This course builds on the foundation laid by the basic DBA courses. This course provides detailed additional information, and extended practical work in a set of case studies that mimic real problems that DBA’s meet every day.

Pre-Requisites:

This course is intended for moderately experienced DBA’s who have been trained in the essential, basic Oracle DBA skills, but who will benefit from a practical-based course.Delegates should have completed our Oracle8 & 8i DBA course.

Training Course Overview/Content:

Setting and managing referential integrity constraints: Delegates are provided with a set of table definitions and data. Delegates must build all primary, foreign keys and non-unique indexes.· File reorganisation: Delegates backup and completely rebuild redo logs, control files and tablespaces onto different volumes.· Table reorganisation: Delegates are provided with large, spatially disorganised tables in different tablespaces. Delegates must reorganise and rebuild these tables, replacing and recompiling all required grants, views, synonyms and deferred PL/SQL objects.· Managing Public synonyms: Delegates are provided with an application that they must analyse for proper use of public synonyms. Delegates build several versions of the synonyms and provide the grants to switch applications from table to table, and schema to schema.· Reviewing the Data Dictionary· Views: Designing and building views. Optimising views. Partitioned views. · Stored procedures and triggers: Managing stored procedures and triggers.· Working with users: Delegates build a set of roles to provide a set of 20 users with production and development capabilities. Another case study concentrates on transferring a set of schema objects to a new name.· Backup and recovery exercises: Cold backup and database recovery. Hot backup and tablespace recovery. Recovery from rollback segment tablespace failure. File renaming. Incomplete recovery.
