Training Course: Train the Trainer
training course enquiry
Training Course Summary:
You may be about to deliver in-house training. That's great - you'll usually have a strong knowledge of the topic, the business's priorities and people's expectations and needs. However you may want to develop your training skills - how to capture the trainee's enthusiasm, how to handle "difficult" trainees and how to measure the effectiveness of the training. This practical course gives you these skills and more.
It is suitable for those who are new to training or those with some experience who want to polish their performance.
You will learn :
How to define objectives that meet both business and trainee needs
How to recognise the different learning styles of trainees and adapt your training accordingly.
How to plan and design training to gain the trainee's commitment and enthusiasm.
How to use prevention strategies to stop a problem before it develops.
How to act assertively but not aggressively with challenging trainees.
How to assist “difficult” trainees - do they believe they lack prior skills and therefore feel exposed - or are they simply reluctant to get involved ?
How to check that your training is really effective.
Training Course Overview/Content:
Day 1 - Session 1 - Planning Your CourseWe help you focus on why the training is important for the individual, his or her team and the business. It is also important to bring out any ‘objections’ to the training - otherwise they can hinder the learning process.
Topics include :
“Smart” course objectives
Knowing your audience in advance
Getting the training mix right - persuasion, information and instruction
Pre-Course reading
Pre-course questionnaires
As a course exercise we will help you develop a training plan for part or all of a course you might deliver in your workplace
Day 1 - Session 2 - Preparing Your Course
We introduce the different styles that we all adopt when in a learning environment. These are in two groups - sensory and psychological.
Studies of sensory styles show some of us have a natural inclination to learn by seeing, others learn by doing, and others learn by hearing. Psychological styles are more subtle but just as important.
The course covers these styles in some depth and tests in the course will allow you to understand your own individual. learning styles. This is very important as we tend to train in a way that suits our style, rather than that of the delegates.
Topics include :
Sensory Learning Styles (Visual, Auditory, Kinaesthetic)
Psychological Learning Styles - Activist, Reflector, Theorist, Pragmatist
Matching training methods to Learning Styles
Seven important design principles to follow
Handling objections
Attention span
Training resources - visual aids, venue and your time
Providing variety in training
Material for delegates - what to include
Preparing clear instructions
Course exercises include:
Practice providing information in an innovative way
Prepare and test instructions to carry out a particular task
Day 2 - Session 1 - On The Day
This section helps you discover and develop an individual style that is effective on the day. Many new trainers are understandably nervous of training - surveys have shown that standing up in front of a group of people is one of the most stressful activities people encounter.
By concentrating on the delegates and not yourself and through practice of some simple techniques, this fear can be reduced.
This module looks at aspects of body language and will show you how to pick up signals from the delegates.
There are also times when delegates ask questions for which you “don’t know the answer”. This is quite common! We suggest strategies for handling these situations.
There are plenty of exercises to help you develop your skills.
Topics include :
Setting the scene
Motivating learners
Body language - ”Not interested”, interested and aggressive
Managing behaviour - yours and your trainees'
Showing empathy
Course exercises:
You will design and rehearse your introduction.
We'll help you plan a strategy to handle objections from your trainees and then test it out for real.
Day 2 Session 2 - Ending your course
It is important that any training finishes on a high note. This is good for the trainer and the delegates!
Trainees need to be clear on what they have learned and how they will apply it. This module helps you ensure this is the case for your training.
Topics include :
Summarising what has been learned
Applying what has been learned
Gaining constructive feedback.
Recording what has been learned.
Supporting continued learning after the course.
Day 2 Session 3 - Technology/IT Issues
There are some issues that are unique to IT training. We will cover these specifically on request.
Topics include:
Fear of technology
Keyboard abuse
Dislike of a new system (“I preferred the old system”, “I wasn’t involved”) etc.
Handling equipment failures
Ensuring learners know both:
How to use system facilities
When to use those facilities
