IntroductionThere are always at least two parties involved in any communication, each of who may have different wants, needs and attitudes. These wants and needs can present barriers if they conflict with those of the other party and such barriers may stop you conveying or receiving the right message.

What is meant by “communication?”
Letter & Report Writing:
Recognising barriers
Language – the use of words
The effects of attitudes
Structure and planning
Paragraphs.
Report Planning & Layout:
Organisation of information in order to write a report.
The need for an aim
The use of summaries
Practical Exercises & Pre-course work:
Delegates are required to prepare and bring a recent example of their written work, e.g. a letter, memorandum or report. The latter is preferable as it should be of reasonable length. If necessary, the delegate may wish to write a report on some aspect of their job.
Aims & Objectives
To examine the importance of good written communication.
To provide practical techniques which each delegate can use in developing their skills in planning and writing clear, easily understandable letters, memos and reports.
