Training Course Summary:

This is a developer-focused course that teaches the fundamentals of enterprise development concepts and describes how XDE facilitates the development of enterprise-level applications.

Recommended Prerequisite Courses
· Essentials of Rational XDE for the .NET Platform
· Essentials of Developing Visual Basic .NET Applications with Rational XDE
· Essentials of Developing .NET Applications with Rational XDE Using C# or
· Essentials of Developing .NET Applications with Rational XDE Using VB.NET

Recommended Experience

Before attending this course, students must have:

· Built a .NET class library, Windows application, ASP.NET application, and Web Service.
· Used the ADO.NET DataSet object.
· Used the Visual Studio Integrated Development Environment to run and debug .NET applications they have built.
· Used the standard toolbar, programming tools, and programming windows in the development environment.
· Used the standard capabilities, toolbox, and views in Rational XDE.

Training Course Overview/Content:

Upon completion of the course, participants should be able to:
· Describe the basic features of Rational XDE.
· Understand the characteristics of enterprise development.
· Describe the purpose of layered architectures separated into presentation, business, and data access layers and to how to implement them in .NET applications.
Identify the .NET components typically used in specific layers in enterprise applications.
· Understand the different model types in Rational XDE.
· Understand the use case model, use case requirements, and design model of the course case study, which is an example of a .NET enterprise application.
· Understand the purpose of patterns and code templates.
· Use patterns and code templates in Rational XDE.
· Understand how Rational XDE assets can be packaged as Reusable Asset Specification (RAS) files.
· Import and export RAS files.
· Understand the importance and purpose of each of the three layers in enterprise applications: data access layer, business layer, and presentation layer.
· Use the Rational XDE Data Modeler functionality with custom patterns and code templates to build each of the three layers for the course case study.
· Build .NET properties faster using the XDE Property Wizard.
· Build Web Services faster with Rational XDE when creating Enterprise applications.
· Build an ASP.NET graphical user interface to provide client interaction with the case study application.
· Use a mix of C# and Visual Basic.NET to build an enterprise application.
