Training Course Summary:

The Cisco ONS 15808 ELH is an extended long haul (ELH) dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) system. The Cisco ONS 15808 ELH Maintenance and Provisioning Training provides instructor-led training that enables the student to learn how to operate the ONS 15808 ELH through classroom instruction and hands-on training on an ONS 15808 ELH system. Working in small groups of up to three people per node, students complete a wide range of tasks covering many system features and functions. Each student has the opportunity to participate in every lab. Open lab periods provide students with opportunities to work with the ONS 15808 ELH system in an unstructured environment. Activities in the open lab are self-directed, but the instructor is available to answer questions and offer guidance. The course is available in a two-day version.

Course Objectives

After completing this course the student should be able to:

Identify the major components, features, and functions of the Cisco ONS 15808 ELH system
Identify laser, fiber optic, electrical, and electrostatic discharge (ESD) safety topics associated with the ONS 15808 ELH
Identify the major components of optical fiber cables and connectors
Identify the major steps required to properly clean optical fiber cables and connectors
Log into the Cisco Wavelength Director (CWD) software
Use the CWD software to identify modules and key system information
Set the line direction
Set the variable optical attenuation
Perform amplifier power provisioning
Retrieve and manage alarms
Performance management
Download firmware
Delete and add a channel
Collect information for basic troubleshooting

Pre-Requisites:

SONET or SDH payload and overhead
DWDM fundamentals
Architecture and framing of digital signals
