This course provides students with the knowledge and skills to monitor, analyze, and optimize the performance of a server running Microsoft Windows® 2000 and Microsoft BackOffice® Server 4.5. Students will learn how to use Windows 2000 tools and utilities to detect performance bottlenecks and take the appropriate course of action to tune and optimize a server running the following:Windows 2000 Server functioning as a file and print server, a domain controller, and an application server
Windows 2000 Server and individual BackOffice Server applications
Windows 2000 Server and all of BackOffice Server 4.5
Pre-Requisites:
Successful completion of Course 1560, Updating Support Skills from Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2000, or equivalent knowledgeFamiliarity with one or more of the BackOffice 4.5 applications, or recommended attendance at one or more of the following courses:
Course 1140, Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 Overview, or equivalent knowledge
Course 953, Applying Microsoft Internet Information Server 4.0 Technologies, or equivalent knowledge
Course 1045, Overview of Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5, or equivalent knowledge

At the end of the course, students will be able to:Provide an overview and explain the importance of server analysis and optimization.
Describe the functions and features of the tools and utilities used to monitor and analyze Windows 2000 and BackOffice Server performance
Create a measurement baseline and forecast future resource requirements.
Determine the necessary hardware requirements for a server running Windows 2000 and BackOffice Server to ensure optimal performance.
Plan for capacity using the common capacity planning methods and the Transaction Cost Analysis method.
Simulate a user load by using various tools and utilities, and evaluate the load results.
Monitor, analyze, and optimize performance of a Windows 2000 file and print server by using Windows 2000 tools and utilities.
Monitor, analyze, and optimize performance of a Windows 2000 domain controller by using Windows 2000 tools and utilities.
Monitor, analyze, and optimize the performance of a Windows 2000 application server by using Windows 2000 tools and utilities.
Monitor, analyze, and optimize the performance of a server running Windows 2000 Server and individual BackOffice products, including Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5, Microsoft SQL Server™ 7.0, Microsoft Internet Information Services 5.0, Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0, Microsoft Site Server 3.0, Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0, and Microsoft SNA Server 4.0, by using Windows 2000 tools and utilities.

Analyze and optimize the performance of a server running Windows 2000 Server and all BackOffice Server products by using Windows 2000 tools and utilities.
