Training Course Summary:
This accelerated course is intended for experienced Microsoft Exchange Server system administrators, architects, and designers who plan, install, configure, customize, administer, and troubleshoot Exchange Server version 5.5. This course is not intended for individuals with no prior Exchange Server knowledge.The goal of this accelerated course is to provide students with the basic knowledge and skills required for implementing and managing an Exchange organization. Days 1 and 2 of the course describe how to perform day-to-day management of an established Exchange organization. Days 3 and 4 of the course focus on product installation and the basic implementation and functionality of Exchange. During this part of the course, students gain an understanding of the Exchange architecture and component interaction, and how Exchange servers communicate within a site and between sites. Day 5 of the course describes how Exchange integrates with the Internet. During this part of the course, students learn which Internet protocols the product supports and how Exchange implements additional components to provide full Internet functionality.
Because this course combines content from Course 1026, Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 Series-Concepts and Administration, and Course 973, Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 Series–Design and Implementation, into a five-day accelerated format, a variety of delivery techniques are used to ensure completion of the course content:
The teaching day is extended by one to two hours.
Students are expected to complete homework each evening during the course.
The modules from 1026B and 973B that are not taught during this accelerated course are provided for reference in the course appendices.
Pre-Requisites:
Attend Course 803, Administering Microsoft Windows NT® 4.0, or possess equivalent skills and knowledgeHave an operational understanding of the following microcomputer topics: memory, hard disks, central processing unit (CPU) types, communication ports, printer ports, network adapter cards, and display adapters
Have experience supporting networks or end users
Training Course Overview/Content:
At the end of the course, students will be able to:Develop the configuration of an Exchange-based server.
Choose an Exchange client installation and integration strategy.
Develop long-term administration strategies.
Configure Exchange for message recipients.
Install and configure Exchange clients.
Configure address lists and accounts using the Exchange Administrator program.
Configure server locations.
Configure security.
Manage users.
Manage distribution lists.
Manage the directory.
Manage public information stores.
Configure a link monitor and server monitor.
Set up the configuration of an Exchange-based server.
Develop an infrastructure for Exchange.
Identify public folders, including server-side scripting.
Identify public and private information store locations.
Plan Internet connectivity and access.
Install Exchange Server.
Configure the synchronization of directory information between Exchange and other mail systems.
Configure directory replication.
Configure Internet protocols and services including postoffice protocol version 3 (POP3), Internet Message Access Protocol version 4 (IMAP4), hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP), network news transfer protocol (NNTP), and Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP).
Manage server locations, the rehoming of public folders, private information stores, and connectivity.
Qualifications:
This course will help the student prepare for the following Microsoft Certified Professional exam:Exam 70-081, Implementing and Supporting Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5
